network problem

Hello,
I now get the following message when I try to log on my private network:
"Unable to browser the network. The network is not present or not started".
But other computers (one with Me and the other with XP) both see my computer, which is using XP. They can both copy my files on their computer but can't put any on mine. It used to work just fine before. Windows has just updated itself very recently, but I don't know if it has anything to do with the updates. I rerun the network wizard, made sure the other computers share files, but to no avail.
I 'ld very much appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Sylvia

Are you running any types of software firewalls on any of the computers? If so, which one(s)?

Also, how are the computers networked? Are they all working over an ethernet network (cables) into a router? Are any of the computers running over wireless? A little more information on the setup of your network might help.

If your setup worked previously and suddenly stopped working, then you might have a problem with a virus and/or spyware on the system in question.

Go and download Ad-Aware SE and SpyBot S&D. Install both programs and run the scanners on each.

If you don't have any anti-virus programs on your computers, get one now. Some free AV programs are Avast and AVG Free.

Let us know how things turn out.

Thanks for your answer, Zxian. The computers are networked through a router and the physical installation hasn't changed.
I do have an antivirus AND Xoftspy (equivalent of the ones you mentionned). I checked both for viruses and trojan horses or whatever, I don't have any. As I said, I installed Windows latest updates very recently, so I wonder if these updates changed some settings somewhere.
I just noticed that when I type "ipconfig /all", the node type says "unknown" instead of saying "hybrid". I suspect this might be the problem, and I don't remember how to set it back to "hybrid".
Thanks for your help,
Sylvia
