Boot xp on removable drive?

I want to use the computer at work for personal reasons, whitout it being affected by it. Therefore I want to install win xp on my external USB HD. Bios supports USB boot. I disabled the local HD in bios. When i try to install xp, it all goes well, until the first time it reboots. It's reading on the USB drive, but after a while it comes up with an error:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." - and suggest that i remove removable drives - which I cant of course.
"Stop: 0x0000007b"

Anyone knows what the problems is. Is it just impossible to get XP to boot on a removable drive - which I've read other people suggest?

Just think it should be possible!

I'm in the exact same situation. I got a laptop from work and they have locked me out of almost everything. I would like to install programs, store mp3s, etc without affecting my work info.

In short, I've also bought an external USB hdd and have tried installing windows and got to the same point you did and got the same blue screen error. I have no idea how to fix it.

Someone please help!?
