WXP SP2 Security Center won't shut up!

I recently upgraded my Windows XP to SP2 and find the Security Center to be a royal pain. I have a physical firewall (a router) and don't need (or want) the XP Firewall. The security center keeps popping up every time I start my system, repeatedly telling me that my computer "could be at risk" and I need to enable my Windows XP Firewall. I've gone into the Security Center and done the following;

1) "Change the way Security Center alerts me"; I clicked on this and unchecked the Firewall box
2) Clicked on "recommendations" below the Firewall line and checked "I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself"
3) Under "Manage Security settings for Windows Firewall" I clicked on this and made sure the "off" button is checked.

This keeps the firewall warning from bugging me during the current session, but each time I reboot, the Firewall warning pops up again and I have to go through all this again! How the heck do I turn this thing off once and for all? Is there any way to simply shut off the entire Security Center?

Thanks,

jwk

Yes, there is...and I disabled it as soon as I found out what a pain the Security Center is.

Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Scroll down to and double click on Security Center.

Select Disabled in the drop-down list for Startup Type. Click the Stop button to turn the Security Center off without having to reboot. That should do it.

Can't thank you enough

Miz,
It worked! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. I do some very heavy-duty graphics which cause me to reboot as often as 10 to 20 times a day. I was getting pretty damned sick of shutting that thing off manually each time. Thanks a million!

You're welcome. It is nice to know that Microsoft allows you to exert at least some control over your computer.

Yes as much as they would like to control our computers and our minds, they are willing to letgo, as long as you go through the drawn out process of disabling their control haha
