XP takes forever to load

When I boot up, the Window goes blank for a couple of minutes and then the Windows welcome screen comes up and stays up for another couple of minutes before bringing up each user. I had to do a Windows repair after SP2 had a conflict with my Norton AV and this is when the problem occured. I have dumped SP2.

Try doing a system restore. When you uninstalled sp2, it may not have removed all of it.
Also do a full sweep of your system for spyware/adware/viruses/trojans.

Actually, I didn't dump SP2, my Windows setup crashed and I had to do a system repair with the XP CD.

Try running sfc /scannow. Start/run/ type: cmd/enter/type: sfc /scannow (note the space after sfc). You will be prompted to insert your xp disk.

Also install, update and run Ad-aware and Spybot search and destroy. Run them both and let them fix anything they find.

You could also consider a full install of xp.

Keep us updated on your progress

You can get the above programs from www.download.com or www.majorgeeks.com

Do you still have Norton installed?. If you do then uninstall it or disable it!. I have read that Norton can use a system's full resources. Does this work?
Have you checked task manager to see if there is something hogging your pc's Ram?.
If you have done a fresh install and there is no change, i would start looking at possible hardware problems?
