Booting and Logging Off (WinXP Home)

I have a laptop that I use as a desktop alternative running WinXP Home with SP2. This I consider my main machine.

For months, even prior to the SP2 upgrade, I would turn on the computer and after finishing the boot, I noticed that the icons loaded in the taskbar were fewer than what I know should be there. The way I resolved this was to log off then log back on. After logging back on, all the icons now appear in the task bar and I have full access to them.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has experienced this "problem" and found out what might be causing this anomaly. It's not a fatal flaw because everything I have runs properly but it does get testy to have to log off and log back on each and every time I turn on the computer to gain access to the taskbar icons!

Sony Vaio Laptop 1.88 Mhz Athlon
1 Gig RAM
XP Home SP2
Zonealarm Pro (Firewall)
AntiVir Version 6 (Anti Virus)

Any advice or help would be appreciated!

When you first boot up, does your comp. go straight into the Desktop with no log-in required? (ie you've only created one user account). If that's so, then perhaps you should give your user account a password which will then force the comp. to pause at the log-in screen every time you boot it up. Worth a try?
