Windows SP2 Install Error "The system cannot find the file specified"

I experienced the same problem with a system running XP Home Edition. I overcame the problem by doing a repair installation of the original version of Windows XP, then running the SP2 installation program. Boot to the original Windows CD. Select to install windows. Select to repair the existing windows installation. I hope that this helps you. I found your post when looking for a solution (which I did not find on the web.) Good Luck!

SP2 Setup Error Fix (Windows Update Error 0x800B0001)

I stumbled on this accidently when I gave up trying to install Windows XP SP2 after I received the same error and could not find any troubleshooting information.

I then tried to use Windows Update and receved a 0x800B0001 error. After examining the troubleshooting document for windows update I executed the following in a batch file re-registering the following dll's

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 Softpub.dll
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll

Being curious after making windows update scan I then tried to load SP2 from the CD again, This time it worked!!!
