Can't partition my hard drive
Hi,
I'm trying for several days to make a partition of 7 GB in my hard disk - I'm running Windows XP in a win32 environment. I've already used abou 7 programs to do this ( including Partition Magic 8.0 ), FDISK, and the Disk Management of Windows. The problem seems to be that the C drive takes all the space in the hard disk - there's no unlocated space. My disk is of ~80 GB. The drive C occupies all of it. I canīt even resize it.
But I'm a newbie in this issues. What can I do to resize C and create a new partition?
Best regards,
Kepler

I believe you have to delete the C partition, then create 2 new partitions of the sizes you want. Evidently you will lose all of your files that were on C.
If there's a way to create a partition out of resizing your existing drive then i'm interested myself.
Hoipe this helps.

agreed, its prolly best to do it the old fashioned way, it can save you many undue grey hairs..lol unfortunatly as stated you will lose your data unless you back it up that is.

Ghost
Hi,
Sorry for the late reply but I was working. I read a few things about Ghost ( from Symantec - Norton ), and I can't see any option available for make a partition in the disk. In case I try to use it, what would be the correct steps for partitioning my hard drive?

If your hard drive is full, then you will not be able to create any new partitions.
You will need to backup some data and then create a partition with PartitionMagic.
Another option is to, as others have said, completely format your hard drive (after you've backed everything up) and create your partitions from the start.
Hope this helps.

well...
Well, it depends of what you consider full; I've got a partition of ~80 GB, but only half is used. What was considered here was to "remove" some free space from that partition and make it a new partition.

If you want to save your existing system and data, Partition Magic should do the job. It can repartition your drive without deleting the system.
Yet, my best advice is to burn your stuff on rewritables and reformat your drive and repartition it using FDISK. Call me old-fashioned, but I, personally, don't trust the "advanced" partition software, such as Partition Magic and the like. Tinkering with an existing partition containing some important data is something I would avoid, if possible.

There is something wrong for sure. Why is C: not showing unallocated space when you say the drive is only half full?
Partition Magic 8 should have had no problem creating the partition you wanted if there were free space available. I have done this several times with no problems. PM will sometimes have conflicts with an install on some hard drives and refuse to do anything or show error messages. A complete reformat and Operating system install is necessary in these cases.

Shit...pardon...
Hi all,
After walking trough some dark corners, I was able to create a partition ( F ) in my hard disk. The only problem is that it only has 16 MB! I already think it over, but now I don't know how to resize it.
Any ideas?
