XP Question (duh)

i am used to formatting hard drives by using a start up disk like with win 98 or Me. how does this wok with XP? i need to format as i have alot of adware spyware etc. built up on my PC (Thanks Kids). do i need to make a start up disk? what / how?

if you have a legal or atleast bootable copy of xp you can boot from the cd and just follow the instructions to install where you will get the options to partition and format. if you do not have a bootable copy of xp, go to
http;//www.bootdisk.com/
and download the 6 floppy disk set that will allow you to boot and set the partitions and format then start the install if you have xp on cd but not bootable on it's own. or you can take a look on the link above under bootable cd, barts way and make a bootable copy of xp.
