File Sharing query

I have 2 other computers. When I try to connect to the first computer on the network I can see the shared folder without having to enter a Windows username and password for that computer. However, when I try to connect to the second computer, it asks me for a username and password for a windows account on that computer. On both computers the shared folder is set to allow 'everyone'. I don't understand why one computer allows me to enter without a password and the other one doesn't. By the way, I do NOT have an account with the same username and password set up on either of these two computers as I do on the (third) one that I'm trying to access with. The only difference I can see between the computers is that the one that allows me access without a password is running XP (as is the one I'm accessing with) but the other one that requires a password is running Windows 2000.

Make sure administrator has full control on the share on the 2000 machine.

If administrator isn't there, just everyone, then add the administrator's group.

File Sharing

Why do I need to do this? Why does it work without the Administrator added on the XP machine, but needs it added on the 2000 machine?

Both Windows 2000 and XP have slightly different quirks but they are not normally a big deal.
Accessing 2000 with out a password is as simple as typing in the user name (on the machine you are trying to access) and leave the password blank and click "enter"

If you open "my network places" (in XP) and click on "search" a box opens to the left. If you type in the user name and then click "search", that computer (after XP locates it) will be kept on file for future reference (providing you don't clear "all forms").
Then the next time you wish to access that machine click on "search" and then type the first couple of letters from the user name and "auto complete" will bring it up. Enter it and "wallah"! your in!
