Windows Media Tech Incompatible error

Upon reading the post by njovin I figured this would be the best way I could think of to submit this. Please help. =/

1) What exactly happened leading up to the problem –
I installed the update of Windows Media Player as well as Musicmatch Jukebox. The Jukebox had an error so I restored my computer to the time right before the updates. When I attempted to re-update Windows Media Player I got the error message below this. I checked the version I was trying to install and it was for XP. It was also the same place I’d just updated it before the restore.

2) Exact error messages –
Windows Media Technologies
This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site.

3) Version of XP -
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

4) Hardware setup -
I used Belarc Advisor to get this information because I know little about this type of thing. Please let me know if you need anything else and where to find it.
-Processor-
2.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

-Drives-
79.99 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
47.09 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8481B
SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-240B [CD-ROM drive]
3.5" format removeable media [Floppy drive]

ST380021A [Hard drive] (80.03 GB) -- drive 0, s/n 3HV2LTDX, rev 3.75, SMART Status: Healthy

That seems to have worked. Thank you so much. I'd searched for an answer and came up empty handed. Thanks again.

Wink This didn't work for me, but I have another solution.

Hello,

I thought this might help somebody, since no solution I have found on the web has worked for me.
The Wmploc.dll file was not the problem for me.
I have tried numerous "solutions", but no matter what I did to the registry, or how many times I installed, then uninstalled WMP11, still the same message would come up : "This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows XP.
I still don't know know how this could be so, because I have the Windows XP SP3.
And uninstalling SP3, in order to install WMP10, didn't work for me either.
So, you see, I have tried numerous manipulations, some which were illogical, but, since I didn't what the problem was, with Microsoft it could have been anything -and to no avail! lol
Finally I copied the temporary files extracted then used by the WMP10 installer. For me the folder was :
C:\Documents and Settings\[Your.Account.Name]\Local Settings\Temp\IXP000.TMP
All the files for the installation are in it. I tried every executable there was, but I think you only have to run "setup_wm.exe".
And WMP10 was installed!

Personally, I much prefer WMP10 than the 11. I hope this will be of use to someone! :-D

Farewell
