Just bought my wife a new computer with Windows XP Professional edition installed.
I installed Word 97 and Excel 97 from a CD we already had... (it was a clean install from the CD... no settings, etc... were carried over from our old computer.)
Copied all of her document files over from her old computer, to the new computer, via our home network.
Now... if I click on a file directly, I get a message that says "This file already open by 'wife's name' do you want to make a copy?"
I also get another error like Windows cannot find an associated file it needs or ???
This happens for every MS Word document, or MS Excel document opened directly by clicking on the file in the documents folder or any other folder.
It DOES NOT OCCUR, however, if I open MS Word first, then use file, open from within the MS Word program.
So what gives???
Is this a sharing or access issue?
Is this occurring because the files were saved under a different OS (Win98)???
I tried opening up a copy, saving it under a different name, (now saved under the XP OS) and opening that file from outsided of Word... it behaves just like any other of my Word files.
Every file I open from outside of Word... opens Word, opens the file, then gives me the "file is already open" line.
Any clue why this is happening?
Thanks,

Brett
