Why are my windows covering my taskbar when maximized?

Hello everyone - this is my first time posting here.

I seem to have a dilema. I sat down at my computer the other day and for some reason, whenever I maximize a window (Mozilla Firefox and other applications) it covers my Windows XP taskbar. I have been dealing with the "problem" for a few days and it is borderline annoying manually resizing my windows so I can see (and use) the taskbar.

I am using Windows XP Home. ThanX in advance for any help anyone can shed on this matter!

No problemo: Just right-click on the Taskbar, select "Properties". Select the "Taskbar" tab and check the "Keep the Taskbar on top of other windows" box.
Is it working allright now?
