major problem. cant open anything. please help.

For a couple of weeks now my dad's computer hasn’t been working that well because he can’t really open anything. I just wanted to help him, so that’s why I’m typing this. He’s not an amateur with computers by the way.....anyway.....every time he clicks on almost any .exe a message pops up saying: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.” He can’t even open windows explorer unless he opens it from the shortcut. He’s experimented and looked for help but nothing seems to work. We even tried overwriting the old RUNDLL32.DLL file but once again it didn’t do anything.

If I didn’t give enough info please ask me what else you need to know.

Well let me tell you my past case.

First thing, I had a virus that infected my .exe files in the boot.ini folder not letting me execute any exe files which was a HUGE problem. I was able to fix this and was successfully okay. Restared then...

I was getting the same thing for the exe file.

The temp fix:
Open say Internet Explorer (INTERNETE.exe then go to C:\Program Files\internet explorer then click INTERNETE.exe then it should load up. However you must do this for every program and every time.

However my friend is a freaking genius, I do not know what he did but he created my a registry fix. I think this also may help you. I will ask him what he did but in the meantime if you want the registry fix, please get into contact with me.
