Why can't I change the view of my files?

How come I can't change the views of all of my files on my computer? I have the big ugly tiles view, and I want it changed to icons.....please help me out.....

I tried going into the control panel and to folder options, but I couldn't figure out how to change them

Or do I do view > Icons somewhere else? And when I do that in a folder, it only changes that particular folder....not all of the folders on my HD.

Do it once in your C: and My Documents folder, then it will remain the same.

Also, under Folder Options, View, you can choose to "Apply to ALL Folders".

Yeah, but my "Apply to all folders" button isn't "hitable"
