XP Pro repair

I have recently had to perform a repair installation on my XP Professional system. It was a repair from an old CD and basically had no recent updates on the CD. I went to use the Windows Update function from the Start Menu and the screen froze. I had to use Task Manager to close out. I then went to the Windows website and attemtpted to update. Again the screen froze and I had to use Task Manager to close out. I could navigate the Windows website (and other websites) with no problem until I tried to access the Windows update screen. Everything else seem to run fine. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum jtsquare .

Unfortunately i do know how to fix your windows update problem. I have xp pro and i have not been able to update from day one? .

You could always just install sp2. It has all the previous updates built in and being as though you have just reinstalled xp, you should not have too many problems.

Just note your current settings and then apply the ones above.
Note: The above info is directly from Microsoft.

I finally obtained a copy of SP2 in disk form and used that to update my system. That seemed to have corrected the update problem since I can now use the update feature. Of course some other problems arose with the update but that is a different story. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
