Question cannot start Performance Logs and Alert service

I cannot start Performance Logs and Alert service on my Windows XP Pro SP2. The error message is
"The Performance Logs and Alert service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alert service."

Is there anyway I can give it something to do?

THanks
Victor

Talking

If you look under admin tools, event viewer you might be able to find out why the service stopped....

Thanks for reply! I check the System event, and there are three events there whenever I try to start that service:
1. The Performance Logs and Alerts service was successfully sent a start control.

2. The Performance Logs and Alerts service entered the running state.

3.The Performance Logs and Alerts service entered the stopped state.

And I send message to:
"For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. "
and they think that it is normal.

I tried another Windows XP Pro SP2, it has same thing.

Any thoughts?

Victor

As per Black Viper's site: -

Performance Logs and Alerts

Collect performance data on a schedule and send the information to a log or trigger an alert. This may be a super geek tool, but I feel that the overhead associated with it is not worth the benefit. You decide.

Default XP Home: Manual
Default XP Pro: Manual
Safe Setting: Disabled

Service name (registry): SysmonLog

Dependencies:

What service Performance Logs and Alerts needs to function properly:

None

What other service require Performance Logs and Alerts to function properly:

None
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mine is disabled, you decide on what's best for you.....
