Problems with display of one of my games....

A friend of mine kindly upgraded my OS from 98SE to XP.

Now one of my games, Master of Orion III by Infogrames, if you wish to know, has a squeezed 'wide-screen' display with a lot of black screen above and below the top and bottom borders. I should say that I have heavily modded the game, which may have caused problems.

I imagine that my screen got reconfigured during the upgrade? Trying to simply expand the screen by the control buttons doesn't work, I hasten to add. Nor changing the screen settings. I still get the 'wide-screen' effect.

I checked my drivers, including that I have the latest DirectX, according to the XP help centre, and all seems in order and up to date but I am still wondering whether it is a driver problem or at least whether a new driver, perhaps the latest NVIDIA drivers, I have a Tornado Geforce II videocard, will solve the problem? Some one on the games forums made this distinction between DirectX drivers and Win XP drivers. I am a little anxious about installing new drivers, but I have made a restore point for the system, in case I screw up.

I am ready to reinstall the game under the new OS and start a new game if necessary. I just need to know that it is necessary and there isn't another solution.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Before reinstalling you could try right clicking on the game icon and selecting properties. Then click on compatibility. From there try running it in compatibility mode for windows 98.

It's a long shot but hey...it beats reinstalling

Many thanks for your reply, Vidster.

I dont have an ikon for MOO3 game, though. Never needed it before. Just inserted the CD.

However, through separate advice, I have been advised that there is this option on some games, at least.

I will mull this over.

Live long and prosper.

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!

I have reinstalled the basic MOO3 game and I stilll have a squeezed screen!

What on earth else could it be? Some incompatibility between my monitor and XP? Surely, it can't be some problem MOO3 has with XP or I would have heard about that by now?
