Exclamation Please help

Hi, i want to install media player 10.it gets to 99% installed and then tells me that "Windows Media Player cannot be installed. Please run setup again", so i do it again and the same thing happens. I do not have SP2 installed so i thought thats why media player 10 wouldn't install. So I decided to install that, it wont install. All my automatic windows updates will not install now. Basically anything "xp related" will not install on my system. I am a third year computer science student- i should know whats going on, but i dont. I would be extremely greatful to anyone who has a clue to what is happening on my system. Cheers

There were a plague of your type of problem here a long time ago and it was related to the catroot folder in windows. Here is the fix.

If that dos'nt help try the sfc /scannow command.
