can't run any application or shutdown.HELP!!!!
Hi...after I start to use xp pro (sp2) for a while (10-30mins) I will not be able to open anymore application or shutdown..if the application is already open i can still continue using it but If i close them I won't be able to open it again and i can't open the new apps either,,when I double click the shortcut or start>all programs> and click on the apps i want to open...the mouse cursor will turn to sand clock for few second and back to cursor ...like nothing happen..same with shutdown or restart too..Ctrl+alt+delete won't open the task manager window as well..no error message or blue screen..the computer is not hung..just that i can't open anything anymore..(i'm thinking maybe .net framwork is causing it.eventhoug i updated to .net framework sp1)..i just have press the restart button ,,then the problem occured time to time..any genious can solve this??????

Did these anomolies happen prior to SP2? If so, uninstall SP2.

As long as you have a quality Firewall and AntiVirus, properly configured and up-to-date at all times, coupled with a NAT enabled router (optional), then there is no need for the additional 'bloat', aka SP2, IMO.

can't run any application or shutdown.HELP!!!!
ir didn't happen when i installed xp sp2 at first (when there's only xp sp2 in the machine)...later on when i start to install applications...the problem exist..yes..i have mcafee virus scan and anispyware too..they are all latest version with the latest virus definition too..I scan my computer and can't find any virus or spyware as well... tried using system restore before..the problem exist..the only solution was to re install windows..the problem's gone but when i re install the apps..one of them must course this problem again..so i tried to find another way out rather than re install the whole thing.....i am thinking about viewing log of what happend in the system so i can see what's the last file windows load before the problem exist but i don't know how or which utilities should i use.

You can try Mac's suggestions @ Annoyances.org, however, I would get rid of SP2, following my initial advice, and be done with it. Naturally, keep your system up-to-date with the usual plethora of anti-spyware, ant-adware, anti-malware programs available. Don't forget to update them, where necessary, on a regular basis.
Couple of links for you, as follows. Also, you will have to disable System Restore, if you have it enabled, prior to running any of these scans, including your AntiVirus scan, and enable it after if you wish to: -
