Question cannot see deleted files in Recycle Bin, why?

When I delete files it goes in to my Recycle Bin. That is what is supposed to happen and it is obvious that it does that because the Recycle Bin icon on my desktop changes to a full Recycle Bin icon and secondly when I open the Recycle Bin I can select the options to Undo Delete of the file/Restore deleted files or to Empty the Recycle Bin. The problem is this, for some reason I cannot see any of the files that I have deleted (into the Recycle Bin) when I open the Recycle Bin folder, it is empty (visually) even though I known that I have files deleted and that they (the files) are supposed to be in there (I know this is true because of the reasons I mentioned in the intro). To make some clarifications one I do not have the option to “Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted” enabled, two I know that I have enough space reserved for the Recycle bin (10% of the hard drive/3.72GB) and three I am not deleting hidden files. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix this problem?

I have the same problem and have searched everywhere for the answer. Thought maybe it was Norton but uninstalled per their instructions and really messed up my system. Had to reinstall XP but problem still there. I bet a totally clean reinstall would fix your problems. I didn't want to do that.

Sorry can't help. I just set mine to bypass the recycle bin and then removed it from my desktop with TweakUi. Problem still there but at least I don't see it!!

no problem, but for no reason the problem went away

thats a good solution. a couple days ago after i restarted my laptop i could finally see the files in the recycle bin again. i did not do anything to try to fix the problem (mainly due to the fact that i could not find one) and the problem just unexplainably disappeared just as it had unexplainably appeared. thanks anyways for the reply.

Files deleted from a zipped folder do not go to the Recycle Bin, they are just gone and not retrievable.

If the folders you were trying to delete were from a zipped folder than this could be the explanation.

If you are running Windows 98, you may open the command prompt and change directory to "C:\" and then delete the "recycled" folder in C: by entering deltree command. After you delete the directory, you should create a new one by "md" command. If you do all these steps, it will probably solve problem because I exercised it and it worked

Again the commands that you should enter in command promt are:

>> cd C:\
>> deltree recycled
>> md recycled

This disappearing trash file thing has happened to me several times. And with me also, it eventually came back as unexplained as it disappeared. I tried your commands to change the directory. I have W2000. When I enter "deltree recycled" it says DELTREE is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I tried it over a couple of times and got the same thing. Any ideas why deltree command does not work on W2000?

The MS KB article underlying the problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;136517

The Recycle Bin gets corrupted or something. Never happened in 98 did it? But XP is advanced and more stable so it had to resort to corrupting the recycle bin all by itself?!

Restarting after deleting some special and/or hidden files causes the next reboot to restore the Recycle Bin to functionality.

So why WinXP hasn't fixed this yet?
