XP not installing help

I have been trying to do either a clean install or an upgrade of Windows XP pro on a HP Pavilion 6470z for labout a week now with no success. I have checked all the requirements for this machine to have XP and it checks out fine. Anyways, the installation hangs on the blue windows setup screen where it says setup is launching windows and it goes no further than that. I'm totaly lost, I have also made sure the BIOS is set to boot from cd-rom first. Can someone please help. Thanks

unless you have added ram and a bigger processor you will be better off using the format and recovery disk to put 98 back on. you can run 2k on it, but it will be slow and lagg alot.
your system specs, on the link below, say you have a good computer for email and surfing the web with windows 98 or ME
or even a few distros of linux. but running xp will cause it, and you alot of problems. i will say it can be done, but it shouldnt be done.
