missing file on install problem

How do I format over a drive that has an ntfs file system on it? This has been bugging me for hours now.

I installed xp onto a new drive and it won't boot cos part of a file named NTLDR is missing, seems this is part of the boot sequence with 98 and for some reason has not loaded with the xp disk. So can someone enlighten me while I still have some hair left???

I already done am overwrite with xp with no luck, I want to re-format the drive with fat32 load win98 and then overwrite with xp, is there an easier way? I followed the recommentdations on microsofts site with no luck, HELP!!

get a 98 boot floppy, if you dont have one get one at
http://www.bootdisk.com/
boot from the floppy, at the
A:\
prompt type
A:\FDISK
hit enter, veiw your partitions and see what all you have, then delete all that apply, primary dos, extended dos, and non-dos(ntfs show up as non-dos)
now boot from the xp cd, if you have a downloaded copy that wont boot the system download the 6 disk set from the above link that will boot the machine and install xp from the cd you have it on. once the installation starts you will be prompted what to do on creating partition(s) and formatiing and then through the install phase.

Confirm: you have a XP UPGRADE disc and not a full version?
