which is better Windows Xp PRo or Home edition

I have Windows xp home edtion on my note book PC and Windows Xp Pro on my Desktop PC. Do I need to upgrade my note book to Xp Pro.

what is the difference beteen XP home editionand Xp PRo in terms of speed, reliability, security etc.

There are few differences other than security and networking. As far as performance and reliability, there should be no difference.

Remember Home edition is a cut down version of Pro
So if money is the issue go for the cheapest
If not buy the best
A simple solution to where there was no Problem.

I have xp pro and xp home edition on my pc's. I don't really notice any difference for what i use my pc's for.

you can manage multiple users better with pro, and have easier access to things like gpedit.msc.............but you can do pretty much all of it with home edition if you are willing to look up utilities and registry edits on tech sites. the most important difference is home edition has green wallpaper and loading bar, pro's is blue is much prettier and makes the price well worth it)...just kidding.
note: security options for home editions folders can be found if you boot in safe mode.

.........But then you install SP2 and all that goes out the window ......."green bars become blue"....."XP Pro gets dropped" ..LOL! along with a splash of the 2000 lower start bar!

what really kills me is people have a legal copy of XP home on a proprietary machine, and download a illegal copy of xp pro corp....they always have 3 reasons and one good excuse why they needed pro...when they were much better off with what they had.

WP Pro is better in alot of ways!! I just depends on what you do with your computer!! If you don't see a difference then don't waste your money on an upgrade!! Don't try to fix a problem that you don't have!!

Thanks to all who replied.

This is what i noticed yesterday.

I plugged my Note book Pc With Xp home edition to a network that runs 2000 domain server. and was unable to get it configured to the domain server. It only can be configured to connect to work group.

Is this is one of the of the differnece between home edition and Pro or there is a way to configure hoem edition to a domain server.

ROTFL.....once you slipstream XP Home with SP2 Networking Cd, there is no such thing as home and Pro, and my Home Edition now says XP Pro
