ok, if you have a speaker icon by the clock doulbe left click it , if not go to the control panel, then sounds speech and audio devices(sounds and audio devices) and open it, put a check in "place volume icon in the task bar" click apply at the bottom then ok. open it, if you have not done so. at the top left corner click options, now click properties, put a dot in recording and click ok at the bottom of the screen. the mic volume, make sure it has a check in select, turn the volum wide open. close the screen and open the sound controls again and clickoptions and properties one more time. now look in the white field and make sure mic has a check in that box, if not add one and click ok. back on the main window with the sliders click options, now advanced controls (if it does not have a check next to it) under the mic slider you should have a "advanced tab" click it and make sure mic gain or boost has a check. back to the main window, use this slider to control the volume for the mic(recording volume). also the mic has to be muted, unless you want it to echo and have alot of feedback.
