Computer Trouble

My computer refuses to load norton antivirus nor any other virus software and I'm concerned it may be infected, how do I check? Also, I've ran spybot and it comes back clean. How do i check viruses?

Online Trojan scan .

If the Trend virus scan comes up blank, try Panda's online scan.

Turn off system restore while performing the scans!

Turn off system restore: Go to the Start menu and right click on My Computer. Select Properties. Select System restore. Check the box that says 'Turn off system restore'. Click Apply and OK.

If you turn off system restore to scan, does this clear all restore points, or do they only clear if you re-boot? Does turning off apply to the resident AV (NAV). If you scan regularly, is there any point in having system restore on at all?

If you turn of system restore you will loose all your restore points. Another restore point will be created as soon as you turn it back on again. I believe they delete as soon as you turn system restore off but i reboot in to safe mode to do my scans anyway.

I like to keep system restore on but reduce the memory usage to the minimum amount. It has come in very usefull when i have installed software and my system has gone pear shaped!

Do not turn off your AV at all .
