Unhappy No screen at startup

I'm trying to repair a hp pavilion xt878 computer. When it starts there is no video. The hard drive startup and the cd works but there is no video. The light on the monitor continues to flash. I have tried different computer to verify the monitor- It works. I have tried tapping the f1 key at startup and get no bios. I have tried a different video card, removed all boards, disconnected the hard drive, floppy and cd cables and tried substituting different memory of the same type. On startup I don't even get to the the keyboard lights flashing. The machine has an AMD1.3Ghz processor on an Asus motherboard. Oh the puter is running ME.
Help please.

unplug everything the motherboard does not have to have to boot to a bios screen. floppy drive, cd drives, hard drive, mouse and keyboard. basically you will have a power supply connected to the motherboard, and monitor hooked to video...see if it post, it will give a error about no keyboard...and what ever else. if it still has no video unplug the power cord and clear the cmos settings with either the jumper or remove the battery(be carefull about static shock) try it again. still no go try a new cmos battery. if that dont get it,....it's either the motherboard has a bad cap or your power supply is dieing.

thanks for the help Risk It All I did all the things you suggested and tested the power supply. Looks like the motherboard has gone south.
