Missing COM port3 in XP Home

Hello All:
I tried to install the XP sevice pack two on a laptop. Now I am not accusing XP of this but after (or nearly there after), I noticed that my modem stopped working cause my COM port3 disappeared.
How do I add back the COM port3 in Windows XP (HOME)?

Does anyone out there know how to add a COM port (3 in this case) back to a laptop and WINXP Home? Some thing or one removed it inadvertantly. Thanks
