sharing internet between 98se and xp

hello
I have a problem with sharing my internet from my main pc in the house to my sons pc (betwwen win98se and xp pro sp2)

Main Pc spec
XP pro ( service pk 2)
AMD 1.4
80gmb hd
750 mb memory
norton anti virus (pro) 2004
xp fire wall
10/t realtek network card (8019)
all updates installed
dial up internet connection (swithing to broadband in next week)
stable for three years

------------
Second PC (sons)
win98SE (with updates) new install
AMD k6 500
500mb memory
10t realtek network card

Problem
I have a stable network, file sharing etc ( bothways)
my sons PC (for the last two years has had winME on it) has recently been reloaded with win98se ( for stabilty)
for the last two years we have successfully shared the internet with the same hardware but using winME and XP pro sp1
i am unable to get ICS to work between WIN98SE and XP pro spk2
my xp station in conections says internet is connect and shared
i have tried it with and with out the fire wall enabled.

im using perimant ip address between the PCs
i have tried to use raspppoe still no joy

as i can see there is nothing wrong with my hardware while i was rebuilding my sons pc with 98se my own pc upgraded to sp2 so it has to be one of those two thing that is causing the problem.

can anyone help ..................... please

i would like to get this working before we move to broadband

ref. my house has been cabled with the old ethanet ( BNC connectors) thus the old network cards

You can route your connection with WinGate. Install it on your computer as a server and on your son's computer as a client (just follow the instructions in the help file). The program does the rest. I used it with success.

Good Luck

maybe a problem with the static IP on the win98se computer?. try this on the win98se computer: go to start/run type "cmd" without the quotes then in the cmd window type "ipconfig/renew" without the quotes. then try to connect to the internet to see if it has had any effect.
not sure if this is available under win98se but worth a try.
