istsvc.exe

Can anyone help me get rid of this thing? It is a pop up ad for a diet patch (complete with it's own music). I first noticed it when I was downloading Microsoft Updates while using Internet Explorer. Usually I use Firefox.

One minute I'm running 29 processes and the next it's up to 45. So, I think there was more stuff that installed along with it. I was able to delete most of them, but this one is stubborn.

I've tried all this in Safe Mode:

- Removed in Services and Startups.
- Registry HKey>Local Machine> Current Version>Windows etc. Found some instances of it in there and deleted them.
- Removed in Add and Remove Programs.
- Cannot remove it from Program files, because something else is using it.
- Downloaded FxIstbar from Symantec - did not detect it on my system
- Norton Antivirus 2004, RegSupreme Pro, AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy find it, but can't remove it.

I was reading about it on Wilder Security forum and it sounds like a pesky thing.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for that, Vidster. I'll print it out, calm down and work on it systematically.

istsvc.exe

istsvc.exe is an advertising program by Integrated Search Technologies. This process monitors your browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's servers for analyses. This also prompts advertising popups. This program is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately. Please see additional details regarding this process

Win Task 5 is a good tool to remove this spyware. But Pest Control is my favorite.

Thanks for your advice, Vidster and CyberNut,

I couldn't get rid of the thing. It seemed like it was all over the place. Not affecting the pc's performance, but eventually, I think it would have. I ended up reinstalling XP - good to go again. I'll have to be more careful now. Thanks
