Thanks, everybody, that helped on this. The last thing i have to figure out is the game not working. Maybe it's a weird format? I'm going to search the registry for the games and see if I can find anything suspicios.

Which is the game that isnt running correctly?
If its like Red Alert, the game runs but the installer wont, due to some hardware access layer it insists on having that isnt present in XP

The Starcraft autorun, which did work before, and also the game Baldur's Gate, which was fine when I first got my machine. When I got connected to the internet, for some reason it stopped working properly, and will no longer install.

I retract my previous statement. At this point, I think it would be easier to just backup all my important files, and use my system restore disk to restore it to original factory condidtion. Yeah, I'll lose all my games, and have to re-install them, but at least I know that I won't be having any virus or similar on my computer. So, thank you to all who helped me out. I really appreciate the time you spent trying to help. If I have any further issues, I'll probably be back.

Just an update on my situation.
I found out that the Media Player problem had to do with one of the updates. Everything worked with it perfectly, until I installed one of the updates, and that is when it started having the problem.
Still asking around at the blizzard web site to see if starcraft has had similar problems on other XP systems, and what the solution was.

I got Winaspi32.exe virus also!!!
Hi,
I also use Norton Antivirus (2003 with most recent updates).
I downloaded a file through this site:
http://www.openwares.org/index.php?o...r&filecatid=37
This forwarded me to download.com. To actually get the program. This is a freeware Divx repair tool used to fix problems with Divx files. During installation of the program I got the red Norton virus box. I said I had a virus. The virus was Winaspi32.exe. This is the text from the activity log.
"Source: C:\windows\system32\winaspi32.exe
Click for more information about this virus : Trojan Horse"
I said it couldn't repair the file. It didn't quarantine it either. I searched my system and it is not there. Before I ran the program I scanned it with Norton Antivirus 2003,PestPatrol 4.4,Ad-Aware SE 1.05 and SpySweeper 3.5. Nothing bad was detected. Should I send the link of the executable to Norton(SARC) and tell them what happend? I did a full scan of my system with the above mentioned programs without anything bad detected. I also used highjackthis. Can I feel secure that I don't have a virus or should I reformat my computer? Thanks for your time.

First of all, sorry for my english. Can you look at your system32 folder for another file called nxscript.exe, 36 Kb, 31/03/2003?
I found in my system32 one file called winaspi32.exe, with the same date. I viewed this with a hexadecimal editor and I found references inside to security programs (maybe to try to disable). Also, I founs that this file starts automatically at startup whit parameter /69.
Mcafee Viruscan not detect like a virus, but I think it is.

Today I did an online scan with http://www.bitdefender.com/
Bitdefender says nxscript.exe is a infected with a trojan: Trojan.Downloader.Small.VL
My own McAfee didn't detect it too!
Strange..

CPU usage 100%
This is another question rather than an answer.
Using XP Pro my CPU is running at 100%, this happens not when I start up but rather when I start Outlook - the CPU stays at 100% even if I close outlook "which still appears in Task Manager" the CPU still runs at 100% this seems to shared by Outlook and Lsass in the Task Manager both running about 40-50% each, if I end Oulook in the Task Manager the CPU reverts back to "normal" ie 3-4%.
Any Ideas?
Paul.

Final Solution
[quote=the mattster]Hi, new user here. I have been having the most annoying problem ever with my brand new
So.... If the pboblem mentioned is about the excessive usage of the Cpu caused by the wmplayer.exe. The solution is that:
The mpg - avi - wmv can sometimes have some piece of viral code inside them.
You think is a normal video that you have downloaded, but in reality is a viral file. The problem of excessive usage is that the video you have downloaded from Web or from EMuLe is loaded everytime you open the computer. It don't put some strange strings in the register (regedit), but in some way it goes in execution..and that's no so good.
So....you must delete every mp3.avi.mpg.wmv.mov that you have download frome the time you have seen that the usage of the cpu is over 90%.
Other ways are bullshit.
Spike. (sorry 4 the English)
