I did a clean system re-install and went straiht to system pack two after making the necessary pre-security updates. Now I have NO problems with green screens on anything and DEP does not slow down my computer and it works with my norton security 2005 software which is excellent and I would not be without it. Why are you puzzled about certain codecs being there and one not being registered? Sounds like a glitch that just somehow happened. Well I have no more problems and I will not download any more codecs manually until the media player automatically calls for it and that includes Divx which I will not install at this time unless absolutely necessary. Sometimes leaving well enough alone is better leaving well enough alone Thank you for your techincal expertise and the time you took to write me. I really appreciate it. I will write again if I ever need your services again. you can reach me on yahoo messenger at erniemusic2.

green screen again

I am getting it again and wonder if it is the video card doing it even though it is random or memory miss allocation somehow? I have tried everything

Same prob, different scenario

I also get the green screen at random points. However, I do NOT have SP2 installed and I get the same problem within Quicktime.

So looks like it elimantes a codec or SP2 problem.

I know this is an old post but Im hoping someone is listening.

In case its a graphics card prob, I have a:
Nvidia Geforce FX5700LE by I believe its Gainward.

thanks.

I'm having the same (or at least very similar) problem. For both Windows Media Player and Apple Quicktime, the image frequently switches to a blank green screen. If it makes any difference, it sometimes switches diagonally (ie. for a brief second the lower right half shows the regular image and the upper-left is green). The audio plays fine. Interestingly, if I switch the windows (via ALT+Tab, for example) and switch back, the image plays fine for a few seconds. I've visited Windows FAQ section, and all of their advice has the generic "check for updated drivers" suggestion.
I'm using a Gateway 812GM Media Center PC from Circuit City. Everything is stock, except for 512 more RAM I added. The OS is Windows XP Home Media Center Edition.
I have all Windows updates, newest Direct X, newest Nvidia Geforce FX 5200, newest version of Windows Media Player, and newest Windows Media Player and DIVX codecs.
What's possibly most frustrating is that the green screen comes and goes. Every once in a while, it'll seem to work, leading me to believe that I've fixed the problem. Then, it comes back and I want to shoot Gateway, Circuit City, and Microsoft (who charges $25 for email tech support). Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Same story here, I've got an Nvidia FX5200 at work and I also get it at home on ATI 9800Pro it can be .mpegs or .wmvs in Media Player, DivX player or Quicktime. .mov always plays fine in quicktime.

My problems only began when I upgraded from WMP9 to 10. I now get stutter on most movies and green screened about 15% of the time. I've heard talk that it's SP2 doing it somehow but complication is too deep for me. Thanks to Microsoft not allowing uninstall I'm stuck with it until my next rebuild. I normally don't bag MS but they screwed this one up somehow.

Green Screen Problem In Media Player

I had this same issue for some time now. It mostly occurs when media player is embedded in IE. Microsoft recently posted a link which corrected my issue. Following is a link to this support document.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;909554

Bottom line is I had to turn off video acceleration under the "Tools", "Options", "Performance", "Video Acceleration". I am not sure what impact this will make but it definitely fixed my problem.

Good luck.

i cant contrubute much to this because im still looking into the matter. but the few things ive found is. everyone i know suffering from this problem are running gforce 5.
when i put my old gforce 4 back in i dont have the problem. but i also see the point of peple sayin about sp2.
the only thing i know for sure is. on my pc. the only media player that isnt affected with the green screen is winamp. im sorry i couldnt help more.

oh and denverjohn. i followed your line. and for now it seems to have stopped greening on me. thanks for that. i just hope it holds out.

Question Tried

Ok, this problem has bothered me enough to actually register at this forum.

I have the same problem(s), duh, and I did download the latest DX software, but I am not so sure if I have the latest driver for my nvideo card (it's I believe a 5 series).

In addition to media players I get the same green screen o' blindness when I am doing cam2cam conference calls on Skype. Cam2Cam works great on other Instant Message progs, but just not Skype...(however they are still beta).

Then I got a green screen during a video in itunes. Interestingly enough the little screen to the bottom left did not get the green washout - albeit the stream stopped and voice got a little choppy.

So basically, the little "preview" screen was displaying the vid fine, whereas when I switched the broadcast to the main itunes player (sort of like quicktime in itunes?) it washed out.

Whatgives?

Beamīs post is interesting to me, problems with Skype cam2cam is the reason I searched this forum.

I bought a new pc about 6 months ago, the graphics card is nvidia FX5600. At that time the newest version of quicktime was 6, and I had the "green screen" problem right from the start, until I found a post on a forum somewhere about deactivating directdraw accelation within the quicktime player. This solved the green screen problem, but the video looked awful in full-screen (low resolution). All other mediaformats/players/codecs work without problems.

I later stumbled across the VLC-player, which plays back QT files beautifully.

Recently, I updated the regular quicktime player to version 7, and now I can playback the qt files that previously was unplayable with directdraw acceleration.

However, this weekend I installed Skype 2.0beta (to get the videoconference options), and here I have the greenscreen problem again. Cam2Cam works fine on msn messenger. I am kind of assuming that Skype is using some older quicktime codec for the video portion of the program, can anyone confirm this?

Lightbulb Well Done

Alright folks my green screen problem has vanished thanx to RogueAgents post.
I found out that my QT was not updated to v7.04 ( I assumed it was already the latest version since I updated Itunes, but seems they update separately? Strange as they download and install as a package, anyways). So I did update QT and voila' it now works without any "greens".

I think you are right Agent. Skype must be using an older version for the vid - hence it is still a beta...

Cheers!

hehe THIS WORKSS

GUYS this works

guys I found in a microsoft support from the official site..... that to update the video cards' drivers and reduce acceleration....... just do this and it will work

there is no problem with the codecs.... it's just video acceleration after the new live update of the media player is too high.... so reduce the acceleration

Ok again I tell you how to do it....

open Windows Media Player..... click tools..... then "options" under tools....click performance....you will see video acceleration somewhere down..... reduce the settings from full.... it should work now.....

check you might have to lower it a lot....one of my old cards needs it to be lowered a lot.

I am sure this will work

I hav posted this same stuff in another forum...just copied and pasted here

Anyway all the best

Because it didn't work for me, i tried a different solution. I got the green screen mainly with Windows Media Video WMV files. So i unregistered the Windows Media Video Decoder WMVDMOD.DLL in folder C:\Windows\System32. Now everything is OK again even with video acceleration set to full.
