File Sharing Problem

I m currently using SP2 n few days ago i have installed a few security updates by Microsoft. After installing, I can still c and take files frm other computers in my local area network BUT they can't access my share folder nor take files frm me.
When they click on my share folder, such msg vil come up: 'this folder is not accessible.You might not have the permission to use this netowrk resource.contact the network administrator to see if u have this access permission.
The network path was not found.'


Then i uninstalled the updates n tried agian but to no avail.then i load the windows troubleshooter, n followed the solutions provided by it BUT the result is the same..

I m not using a personal firewall but i do have AVG.BUt there is no such prob until i have installed the security updates few days ago....

CAN any1 help me with this????

windows xp sp2 turns on the windows xp firewall by default, unless you configure it, or disable it you will not be able to share files. interestingly enough you can share network connections though.
you really need to use a firewall, although xp's is better after sp2 it still lacks in many ways. to disable the firewall, go to the control panel, switch to classic view (if not already) then to the firewall icon and turn it off....or configure it if you have the notion. if you disable it open the security center icon after you are done with the firewall and click change the way security center alerts me and take the check out of firewall or it will nag you untill you scream.

i have checked the box where files sharing are allowed..but then like i said, i can take n transfer files from other users in my local area network..BUT the prob is that other COM CANnot take files from me although they can my com among the workgroup computers......

I have also tried the way u suggested...i still can take files frm other users BUT they can;t take amnything frm me n the same error msg occured....
I m really puzzled by it...

Are you running an extra firewall such as Norton of McAfee? If you are, disable those too.

I had the same problem with my SP2 machine. The solution was to simply rename the shared folder to something other than it's current title.

nope..i dun have any firewall....jsut windows firewall...before that i also had the same prob..then i created a new network...so everything was fine until i did the windows security update...

well guys..i settled the prob..i jsut disable the windows firewall n everything is working fine again..but then any recommendation for firewall software???
