Disk check not checking...

I've had Windows XP, corp edition on my machine for some time now with absolutely no problems. Early last week, after no change in my system whatsoever, I am consistenly getting the disk check screen. BUT, it says that it's going to start checking but never checks it. Result: the screen keeps coming up on startup. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? More importantly, how can I get it to do a disk check and finally get it to stop?

Open "my computer" -- then right click on your hard drive (c drive probably) -- click on "properties" --- click on "tools" -- check "volume for errors". Viola! It may be set to do a check on every startup. Check control panel "shedualed tasks".

beeboy - Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Really strange. I was able to check it using the method you described. But that didn't work. It still came up and was not completely checking the drive. I checked scheduled tasks and the check task wasn't in there. So I tried to check the drive using your method. I checked to automatically fix errors. It said something about not being able to do it but also asked if I wanted to schedule it as a task. I checked yes just for kicks. After re-starting, sure enough it went thru the check process. First C then D (D was the problem drive.) When D came up, the problem was it would look like it would check but then it would just quit before it even started. So this time I was covering my eyes but to my surprise, the percentages started to increment starting at 1, something it hadn't been doing. It completed it and then started normally. I re-started again and Voila!, no more disk checking issue! Thanks for your guidance beeboy!!
