Unhappy Desktop / wallpaper disappeared

I had a problem early this week that I think I caught some virus and adware problems. I was able to elminated most of the ad-ware and I installed ez-antivirus/firewall. Everything seems ok now except whenever I rec'd a message via ICQ, a window will pop up and said they have "Internet explorer transcript error" etc......which I hope it's a small matter.

When I first notice the problem, my wallpaper was changed to a black one with message like you system was changed and you'll not able to change it back nor delete files (something like this..I don't remember)

I was able to get that "wallpaper" away now. However, my wallpaper is white and grey (switching around sometimes) and I cannot change it to any wallpaper that I wish. Just can't change it. I can only see what I selected when I log off from the computer, for a glance.

What can I do? how can I gain back the control of my wallpaper selection? Please help.

i guess that could be anything from a virus 2 a hack attempt. i got this prob once, but the wallpaper wasn't color-less, it was actually a pic of pamela [xXx] n in tiles display. . . .
try running a combination of Norton 2005 and zone alarm, plus a spy/adware remover.

Just a thought, you did't say, but did you turn off system restore before running your anti viruse and adware programes. Update your anti viruse and adaware programes TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE and run again. Viruses stay in system restore and arn't removed dureing scans, just come back to haunt you. You can turn system restore back on if you want to

Hope this helps.
