Can't install HDD's
Hello,
I'm trying to setup two hard drives both Maxtor 40gig ata as a mirrored array.
When I get to the part where I install the drivers from a floppy (just before installing XP pro) I get this message.
File \ win2K_x2\iteraid.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2108 in D:\ xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c.
Can anyone please help me out here I've no idea what this message means?
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7N00 Pro 2
2xMaxtor hdd's (same models)
I hope I've given enough info, I don't know very much about computers.

Is the windows CD, and the raid disk working correctly. Have you checked them on another machine?

Sorry I meant the floppy disk, the one with the raid drivers on.

Ok, if this file \ win2K_x2\iteraid.sys is causing the problem then the thing I would try is format the drive the old fasioned way. Use a 98 boot disk to boot from CD, then at the prompt you can do two things. (You need to wipe your drive to get rid of that faulty file) Either do an fdisk or type format c:\.
Everyone on here would probably tell you to use Fdisk.
When you have formatted, boot from the xp cd and try again.

File \ win2K_x2\iteraid.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2108 in D:\ xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c.

Are the two files -
D:\ xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c
and
\ win2K_x2\iteraid.sys
on the windows CD. If they are then then try another copy of XP.
I wouldn't know whaty else to do, because it looks so much like theres something wrong with the cd.

I've had a reply from Gigabyte here it is:
Hi,
If you plan to install Windows XP /2000 directly on RAID systems or on the onboard chips which needs the drivers, you can copy the necessary drivers from our Driver CD to the floppy diskette thru this method :
1. Please put the Driver CD into a CD ROM /DVD ROM ( of another computer). Remember to put a formatted floppy diskette into the floppy drive.
2. In "My Computer" icon, click open the drive of the CDROM / DVDROM (where the Driver CD was placed). Look for "BootDrv" folder, and open the folder.
3. Look for "Menu.exe" and double click it.
4. A "DOS" Windows will pop out. A list of drivers will appear in the DOS Windows. Please select the number or letter that correspond to the drivers that you need. It would copy the driver files to the floppy diskette automatically.
Hope this works for the both of us
All the best
Jimbo

I had the same problem on an Asus P5GD1. It wasn't until I carefully read the screen with the error that I realized the txtsetup.oem file was specifying the folder to look for the 3 files.
Originally, I had all 5 files in the root of A:. Once I moved the "WinXP", "Win2K", & "Win2003" folders over, that contained the .sys, .inf, and .cat files, it worked like a champ.
Hope this helps
