DVD playback

I was thinking of buying a DVD-ROM drive for my computer running XP Home. It's a Pentium 3 930Mhz, and 384mb of ram. Do you think it could play a smooth DVD with a 16x dvd rom drive? Also what program do you reccomend to play DVD's?
