Internal Modem Problem

I have recently reinstalled Windows XP. When I did, I noticed that my internal modem is no longer listed in the Modems. I was wondering how I could get it back. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Lightbulb Internal Modem

try removing your modem and re installing it it a different slot on your motherboard
That may help your software remember what it is

In device manager, do you have any yellow exclamation marks indicating unknown devices?? If you do, then I suggest the following:
Windows Plug and Play for XP is pretty good compared to yesteryears, but still not perfect. I would hope that you have handy either the software driver that came when you bought the modem from the manufactuer itself OR you might need to install the system board(motherboard) chipset drivers to help Plug-n-play recognize any controllers associated with your modem. If the later is true then after the chipset driver is installed correctly, XP plug and play will usually detect and install the modem for you automatically.

If Plug and Play straight up is not detecting the modem at all, then i would bet stevefire is right....make sure the modem is seated in the slot all the way, or try seating it in another slot and then reboot.

I have tried the suggestion about putting it in a new slot, and it half-way worked, but I still need a driver for it. The Modem comes up "PCI Simple Communications Controller" when Windows detects it at startup, but doesn't install it because it cannot find a driver for it. Is there a place where I can download a driver for it?

internal modem

If you don't have any paper work that can tell you the manufacturer of the modem and model, you need check the modem card for the maker , the number on the chip and/or the fcc number if any.

I use this site, to download you need to register it's free

Download a driver that's compatible with Windows XP for that modem.

EDIT: I just re-read my post. Duh, you can't! Not on your PC, at least. Try downloading it on another PC.
