Internet Explorer ISSUES

I am trying to download the Windows Service Pack 2...but my computer won't let me do it without going through Internet Explorer. I use Firefox and Netscape, because Explorer gives me problems whenever I use it. I typically get 10-20 popups from Explorer daily...even though I NEVER use it. I must have a virus that has corrupted Internet Explorer, but I tried to update it, and it won't let me do that either. It gives me error messages and won't let me follow through with the installation. Are there any suggestions as to how to fix this? Or...how to successfully download the Service Pack?
I have McAfee AntiVirus, but it hasn't found any viruses...although I know I must have at least a few. :/
Thanks

have a look at the sticky; Windows XP SOLUTIONS at the begging of the threads. It sounds like a virus or spyware, there are lots of freeware to download, I use AdAware SE and SpyBot Search & Destroy install these programes, update them let them run and clean your system. One other thing "TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE" before running AV or spyware cleaners, they do not clear System Restore.

Hope this helps.

go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > double click System > brings up System Properties box > go to System Restore tab > put tick in Turn off System Restore box > click Apply then OK . A warning box will say you will lose all previous restore points > click OK. You can turn System Restore back on again if you want to.

Hope this is clear enough.
