cannot run executable (.exe) files

im in a terrible mess

i cannot run any .exe files on my laptop

hence i downloaded a file called xp_exe_fix.reg from the internet and to run it i copied regedit.exe as regedit.com

but i got a message saying "Registry editing had been disabled by admin"

i then tried to manully write code but the laptop does not accept my user name and password in safe mode command prompt

please help me

Can you boot into the main (usually hidden) Administrator account?

In XP Home that account is available only in Safe Mode.

In XP Pro, you can get the main Administrator account logon to appear at the Welcome screen by pressing Ctrl/Alt/Del twice.

Most people don't bother to password it so when asked for the Administrator password, leave the password field blank and press the Enter key.

If you can get into that main Administrator account, you can do pretty much anything...including running the downloaded file...so be careful while you're there.

i have xp professional...but seems there is a password after all

btw why can i log into normal windows but not into the safe mode command prompt?

Also the laptop seems to be using netware novell client. does that change anything?
