Look on the harddrive for the I386 folder. If it's there, see if it has the Valueadd\MSFT\NTbackup folder. If so, you should be able to install the backup utility from the ntbackup.msi file there.

Is your computer a Hewlett Packard? If so, they include software to make recovery CDs. It requires 6 blank CDs. A shortcut to that program is on the Start Menu but I can't remember the name of it.

You should make the CDs because if you ever need them (if the harddrive fails, for example) and haven't made your own, you'll have to buy them from Hewlett Packard. I think, but not sure, that Compaqs are set up the same way. The last time a Compaq owning customer of mine checked, Compaq wanted $40 for them.

here you can read how to install windwos backup utility. But you will need to have an installation CD, not OEM one. And as i understood from your words, you don't have such. So i can recomend to look at some 3d party backup progs.

On the page below, scroll down to "NTBackup is missing from my OEM version of XP". Click on it and download the Windows Backup utility. Here:

Personally, NTBackup is good enough for my purposes, and it's free.

[EDIT] I hope posting the above link is okay, if not, please remove.
