program installation takes too long

hi there,
i reinstalled win xp pro sp1 a few days ago.now i have the problem, that the installation of any program takes too much time. i can see the installation progress, than it seems to stop/freeze for a couple of minutes untill the installation finishes correctly. like mentioned before, that happens with any program.
any suggestions?

thanks in advance!

greetings from germany

jack

first, thanks for your reply. first i tried the repair function of xp.when it finished, my pc don`t boots anymore.than i did ja fresh install of xp,but without formatting my disc, cause i had important data on it and unfortunately had no back up from it. all my data was still there, but i had to install my programs over again. everythin's running fine, except
the installation-progress of programs. example: i need 5 minutes to install winamp. weired,or?
thats all the information i can give.hope it's enough.

greets jack

It sounds like you have installed XP over the previous version on the same partition (not recommended) and that is why you need to reinstall all your programs.

To do a "system file repair"....boot from the CD and select "new installation". Do NOT select "repair' at this point. Press F8 to continue. You will then be given the option to repair. Select "R" and follow instructions. This method will repair the Windows installation and keep your files intact and installed.

Personally I would back up your files onto another harddrive or CD and then "formatt" and reinstall XP. One of the simplest ways is to "slave" your harddrive onto another computer and transfere all data onto that machine (temp.) and then after reinstallation, retrieve them using the reverse.

"Say hi to Stephanie" (somewhere in Germany ) next time you see her!

LOL! "Stephanie" was an exchange student (from Germany) that befriended my oldest daughter a few years back.
