Windows XP recovery console

Hi,

I have recently puchased a Packard Bell laptop (Win XP home SP1, centrino 1.4, 512 MB RAM). When it boots up i get an option to load either Windows XP or the Windows XP recovery console. There is a time limit to respond which expires before ive read the rest but XP loads as expected and works fine after that.

Does anyone know how to stop getting this prompt or (more importantly) why ive started to get it in the first case!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated because i can't find anything on this on the web.

Thanks,

Stephen

Disable operating system boot prompt

Follow these instructions to disable the operating system boot prompt.

1. Find your My Computer icon and right click on it, then click on properties.
2. Click on the advanced tab.
3. Under the start up and recovery area click on the settings button.
4. Make sure the default operating system box is set to the one you want to boot to. (Ex. Windows XP Home /fastdetect)
5. Uncheck the box that says "Time to display list of operating systems:"
6. Click Ok on all open windows and reboot. This should take care of your problem.
