XP PRO Repair 'BLACK SCREEN'

New here folks, so go easy !!

Have a problem.. Have an HP running XP Pro, and was trying a restore a 'few times' because it would'nt restore back and lost power during the attempt.. Ended up getting a BSOD 'bad check sum/doesn't match computed sum error'. So I did a XP repair install.. All looked like it was going well, loaded everything/key ect. and when it goes to reboot at the end of the repair I get the XP loading bar/logo and it loads 'just' past where I got the blue screen, but then stops DEAD (just before the welcome I think) and all I have is a black screen with the pointer.. I went into the repair console and did a bootfix and such, but same problem.. Anybody have an idea on a sollution.. I can do a clean install, as there'snot much data to save, and what is there is on CD, but would like to just complete the repair if possible..

Thanks.......Rob...

This doesn't help with your current problems but repair installations fail with amazing regularity and even if they don't, the computer is never restored 100%.

Format and reinstall is always the best option.
