Right-Click from program list not working

Im running XP home, usually i can right click on any program in the list and open, delete, create shortcut, properties etc. comes up. However recently i was trying to open the properties to get to the compatibility tab and discovered it wasnt working. Im not sure when this started (or stopped) so am a little lost on what may have caused this. The right click function everywhere else is working normally, so i have ruled out the mouse being the cause. I have tried to find a reason and a way i can fix it, unfortunately i have been unsuccessful. I can still use the compatibility wizard by using the link through the help section. However would like to know what may of caused this, and how i can fix it. Your help and wisdom will be greatly appreciated. I am not sure what specifications you need to know about my computer in relation to my problem, if you require more information please ask.

Try scanning your system for viruses or spyware which may be causing your system not to respond to certain actions.

Good Luck

P.S.: Does your context menu appear at all? Or is it just the Properties option the one that doesn't work?

My system is clear from viruses and spyware to the best of my knowledge. I run AVG Free daily and update when necessary, I also run Adaware, Spybot and cwshredder weekly and regularly run disk clean up and defrag. Today i followed the advice of another post from this forum and have set up Clean It to run on start up.

The context menu (i now know what it is called) is not showing up at all on any of the programs on the list when i right-click.

Is there anything i can try in addition to the above your help is again very much appreciated

Please post a detailed description of your systems specs and a list of software applications you have installed before you started having this problem.

I've had the same thing happen to me in the past couple of days also. The only thing happening on mine is a flash if I right click on the context menu. I've also run PCcillin several times and tried everything else imaginable.

I'd be thankful for any help here. I can tell you I think this happened after the windows security updates they issued the other day. Thanks for any help you can give.

I had the same thing - must be a windows update. I got it working by going into Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. Select Start Menu tab and customise. Select the advanced tab. Under startmenu items ensure that enable dragging and dropping is selected.

Regards
