Problem With A Windows Update.

Hello everyone.

I am having a small problem with a windows update, can anyone here help me. I will explain my position.

First Of all, I see the little icon for windows update in the taskbar (bottom right corner), which looks like this , and I click it, and it brings up this window , after that it acts like it's installing, and looks like this , when the progress bar is comple I get this and notice, that is says 'failed' after that this creen comes up right after it which usually should say install succsesful, if it was, after that this icon as usual comes up in the taskbar, yet again like before, so I click on it, and decide instead clicking express, to click custom, and this window comes up explaining what exactly the update is and then of course I press install, and still get 'failed to install' so then later that day, when I was shutting my computer down, I saw this come up, in which I have never seen before this lead me to believe that when I shut my computer down, that windows would install it while it was sht down. But Right as soon as I re-started it back up the next day, sure enough this icon was back in the taskbar, with the same update trying to be installed, and aafter it fails the icon comes back to the taskbar. No matter how many times I try to install the update it fails, and the icon comes back. Can someone please tell me what problem here is occuring to me, because it is quite annoying.

Thank you.

This is very similar to my problem, which I still haven't resolved.

See here for my thread:
http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com...threadid=17313

I will reply to that thread if/when I find out what the problem is.

Have you used windows update successfully before?
Are you using a new system?

Cheers and good luck.

What motherboard / processor are you using?

I ask because a friend of mine (not an expert, mind you) suspects that my problem may be due to motherboard voltage settings or a registry error.

I remain to be convinced either way.

Same problem, DarkAvenue

Although I rarely log on to forums, after reading DarkAvenue's message, I decided to sign on to this group's discussion arena.

This morning, I experienced precisely the same problem as encountered by DarkAvenue. I had not added any new equipment to my computer, nor any new software.

I too agreed to the download from Windows Update, and all went well with the download. However, within minutes, I received yet another download message from the same source. I agreed to the second download, however it failed. The same was true for the next two attempts. I decided to disable Windows Update.

Just on a hunch, I decided to run my antivirus software (PC-cillan's Internet Security 2004). The results were frightening. The scan listed 4 viruses. I immediately contacted Trend Micro and was led through a typical removal of the offensive files.

At this point, Windows Update remains disabled, and I won't re-enable it until I contact Microsoft (at the cost of $35.00 for the session, but will insist on a refund) and await an informed answer.

Again, I would not have joined a forum unless I thought that I had something to add. For DarkAvenue, and all who have experienced this morning's anomoly, you might wish to run an antivirus scan of your system. That's just a suggestion.

And yes I do run my antivirus software

And I should have mentioned that I run a full scan of my system every few days. It was clear yesterday, thus the viruses arrived this morning and suspiciously mirror the number of attempts to download an update for Radeon 9200, from the Windows Update Center (set, at the time, to automatic). I also noted that, under Downloaded Program Files, I have a corrupted file from this morning.

667DarkAvenue I'd try the Download Centre if I were you, the rules are different for downloading than the ones on the update site. Nothing to lose in trying.

to bookworm,

I tried the same things 667DarkAvenue did, no result!

It comes without error code.

I can download anything else from the internet except from windows.

I down loaded before SP2 and other udates - fine.

I had the probat trojan virus and did everything Symantec tells about it.

After i scanned my PC with all possible anti virus, trojan and spyware programs - no result.

Still I get "windows update succesfully failed.

any other solution?

Thankx

Klaus

The only thing I can suggest is to get an online virus scanner ( Panda is good ) it scans for virus and spyware, download and install. Then turn off System Restore ( restore points cannot be scanned ) then start in safe Mode and run the Panda scan.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem. And it blocked for new downloads from Windows Update.

I downloaded and installed Service Pack 2 (SP2) from www.microsoft.com

This solved the problem.
