System Restore

Tried to do a System Restore from a date in December 2004. However, the calendar in system restore will not go back past January 1. Have a problem as no System Restore poiints done this year and neither were there any System checkpoints.
Any ideas on how I can restore my PC to the way it was in December 2004? Any reason why the calendar in System Restore will not go back to last year?

Thanx
Ian

What's the problem for needing a restore?
If things are seriously messed up you will need to use the scannow sfc command or a repair install.

Why restore needed!

Thanx for your input.
I need to go to an earlier restore point because I have just installed a program (HP printer software) and upon rebooting my DVD drive does not appear in My Computer and I cannot access it. Going back to a restore point prior to the install can let me start from scratch.
I went tio the site you suggested (and ran sfc /scannow) but it wants to access my XP disc which it can't because the drive is not recognised. Same with updating the drivers for the DVD drive.
Any suggestions on how to get my DVD drive back on line that doies not require accessing the drive?

i found out that you can free up disc space by lessening the amount of space your pc allows for system restore, but by doing so you limit the number of restore points you have.

maybe you havent allowed enough space, check and see it may help you in the future
