Problem With Hidden Files

I have recently reformatted my computer. I moved some files and folders I would need to a second computers hard drive. Then I reformatted the first computer and everything went smoothly.
Once my first computer is up and running I put in the second computer's harddrive and tranfer all the files and folders.
Then the last folder, which was My documents was only partially there. I right clicked and clicked on show hidden files. And a window showed up with a status bar that is saying applying attributes and its showing file names that are in the folders that I need so it seems the files I need are still there, but the problem is that i haven't seen the bar moved very much within the last 15 minutes. I dont know if this is going to work or not, it could just be taking a long time because i have my art work and various other files in my documents that was near 10 gigs in size.
Does anyone else know anything about this?
is it just taking that long to reveal the hidden documents because of the sheer size or is it frozen and just wont work.
I'd really appreciate any help I can get these files are very important to me.

Were those files encrypted by the original Xp? If so, you can most likely forget about them.
If they were not encrypted just take ownership of them.

I took owner ship of the folder like in the directions but the bulk of the files and folders are still missing. i'm not sure if they were encrypted but I doubt they were. Is there anything that can be done that can make them reappear?
