Passwords on shared resources

I want to set passwords on my shared resources (for example a directory), so that only some of the people on the LAN can access them. If not, at least setting some permissions would be nice.

My OS is WinXP Professional, other OS's in he LAN: WinXP, Win98. I'm not on a domain, just a workgroup. I don't have NTFS partions and I can't set one, because I also have Win98 installed and I want it to be able to "see" the WinXP.

One last thing: I don't want to set passwords for local users, but for remote users.

Thank you, dumdum, I've allready tried that but it only works in Win98.
