I have a Desktop and a Laptop networked togeather.
- Sharing files is working fine
- I want to share the internet connection from my Desktop to my Laptop.
The Desktop is connected directy to the internet
- Works fine
- A second network card in my Desktop is connected to a router
- My Laptop is also connected to the router.
Ive drawn a diagram here :

[ I have been working on this for 3 days now, and drawing a diagram and calling for help actually seems a very sensible thing to do right now

]
When I attempt to enable Internet Connect Sharing (iNET connection > Properties > Advanced) I receive the error message :
(Etc)
"Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) cannot be enabled due to an IP address conflict on the network".
(Etc)
I have changed the IP address on my Laptop to 192.168.0.2
My Desktop is using 192.168.0.1
(I have also tried to allow the computers to "Automatically Assign" the IP addresses, with the same results)
So there is no conflict,
I have confirmed that the Laptops IP is not conflicting with the Desktops by unplugging the Laptop from the router ( I get the same error even with the Laptop unplugged )
When I unplug the Desktop from the router, I
am able to turn on ICS, (ofcourse it does no good unplugged)
So - the problem, I believe, may have somthing to do with the router? Is that possible? I am new to networking and dont really understand much yet how it works, does the router get an IP address? ANY ideas would be MOST welcome at this point.... Is it possible that a "removed" network card is still configured with an IP address? (I received a strange error once, that a removed network card is conflicting with an existing cards IP address) but how do i uninstall removed hardware drivers?
Thanks!!!!
