Disabled Display Adapter!!! Help!!!
Yes I know this was so stupid of me to do this....
I have a Compaq Presario SR1230NX, which has Windows XP. This system came with a very basic video chip on the motherboard. So I bought an ATI 9250 to install in the AGP slot. The first install went great, the graphics were great, but then I started having alot of problems where the screen kept freezing every time the graphics were being used. So I uninstalled and while reading the manual for the new video card, I noticed it said to uninstall previous drivers before installing the new video card. So without thinking, I went into the Device Manager, and disabled the display adapter that is on the motherboard. I then proceeded to turn off the computer to open it up and reinstall the new video card. So then I turn the computer back on, and I get the "Compaq" logo on the screen, then I get the Windows XP loading screen, but when the time comes for the desktop to load, the screen goes blank. Although I can hear pop ups and can move the mouse around and click on things, I cant see anything!! So basically I screwed myself because now I can't continue the install for the new video card with the CD since I cant see anything on the screen to run the CD, and I also cant "enable" the video chip on the motherboard that I disabled since I cant see anything to get to the Device Manager. Ive tried every possible fix, I even had my mother on the phone while she sat at her computer and told me which keys to press to get to the Device Manager, but that didnt work... If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!!! Is there anything I can do outside of the Windows program to re "enable" the display adapter??

The only thing I can think of at the moment is are you sure you connected the monitor to the new video card rather than leaving it hooked to the onboard video port?

Yes I did change the monitor cable to the new video card. Right now though the new video card was removed and the monitor's cable was hooked back up to the onboard chip since I was not able to complete installation on the new video card without being able to see the installation process on the screen... Thanks anyways, let me know if you come up with anymore ideas!!

This is neat
Did you try Last Known Good and Safe Mode with your new AGP card out?

Try both of these options and Enable VGA Mode option (you'll see it on the same screen) without, and then with your new card (attaching your monitor to different adapters - new and old). This is the simplest way to get the thing back.
But if it doesn't work, you could try Recovery Console to enable the original video adapter. But RC doesn’t have a Graphical User Interface, and may get messy.

If an image is displayed up to where the login would normally appear, It sounds like the refresh rate is too high for the monitor. Try to set it to 60 Hz and go from there.

I am having the same problem as was first stated, i have even tried the thing where i tried to navigate with my keys to get it re-enabled but that didn't really work, i also have tried to change some of my BIOS settings and have tried to safe mode but that doesn't work. It is a very frustrating problem because you know that your computer still works but you just can't see anything so i refuse to give up and re-install windows.
p.s. i had the same crappy performace that spurred me to disable it thinking that it was just a driver that i could re-install

Try this ....
Install the new card, boot the PC and let XP install basic VGA drivers for it then install the drivers for the new card.

When your system said to remove the old video, I think it wanted you to remove it from your bios. Get into your bios and see if you can remove or disable it there. Then accept and exit. Power off and install your new video card. At power up the system should look at the new video card, but will only install default drivers and there is where you install the drivers that came with the new card. GOOD LUCK
